This is a very interesting opportunity for destination marketers of any size.

At one time in our lives we have all opened a magazine and had a "readers services card" fall in our lap. The card promised some form of incentive if we would fill it out and mail it in. Once received by the marketing agency our contact information would be added to a mailing list for a follow-up direct mail campaign.

This approach has been used very effectively for decades by DMOs (destination marketing organizations) and others. Unfortunately the combination of print and direct mail is no longer a cost effective marketing solution. As a result destination marketers are migrating to digital marketing channels as quickly as they can!

The new digital solution still starts with an incentive but it now ends with the collection of opt-in email addresses to be used in targeted email campaigns. There is a variety of ways to convert audience into prospects and they all use a combination of traditional and digital marketing channels, each driving their respective audience share to an online form in order to opt-in to the offer.

One model I have tested with great success called for the placement of a sweepstakes app on the facebook page of a traditional marketing partner located in a target DMA. The marketing partner drives their audience to the app where the end user can opt-in to the client's sweepstakes and newsletter.

The traditional marketing partner quickly grows their facebook fans while the destination marketer gains the email addresses of qualified prospects.
